Why every shade we photograph is shot by a north-facing window, and how to hold a swatch against your own hair.

Blonde is the hardest shade to match and the easiest to get wrong. Salon lighting is warm, phone cameras auto-correct, and a bundle that looked perfect under a mirror light can read brassy by the window.
Everything we photograph is shot at a north-facing window between ten and two, with no filter and no warming. What you see on the product page is what lands in the box.
When you compare at home, hold the hair flat against your mid-lengths — not your roots — and step to the nearest window. Roots are always cooler and will send you a shade too ashy.
If you are between two tones, take the cooler one. A gloss can warm hair up in twenty minutes; lifting it is a longer, harsher conversation.
